The Bushey Carnival will be resurrected in a brand new home on Saturday afternoon following a three-year hiatus.

The popular carnival, which used to include a parade through the High Street, was controversially scrapped from the Bushey Festival itinerary after the previous organisers said it had become too hard to organise.

The carnival, which marked the start of the 26-year-old festival, was originally run by a local Round Table group. However, a lack of support and volunteers meant they could no longer organise it.

This year, following a break, the Watford Lions and the Lincolnsfield Children's Centre have relaunched the carnival and parade, to be held on Saturday.

Brian Turner, who formed an organising committee and arranged much of the parade, said: “We have done this off our own back really.

“I got a committee together, I got the Lincolnsfield Centre involved and we went ahead with it.

“We managed to get 24 people on the committee, we have all been working like Trojans and finally it is happening on Saturday.”

The carnival will include a children's costume parade, a 1940s parade, including vehicles and costumes, and a soap box cart team derby.

The day has been deliberately focused on families and children and will raise money for the Lincolnsfield Children's Centre as well as future carnivals.

It will be held at its new home, inside the Lincolnsfield Centre, on Bushey Hall Drive. However, Brian says the move could be a temporary one.

He said: “We couldn't organise the parade to go down the High Street so it will go around the Lincolnsfield Centre itself.

“It was a lot of organising to arrange all the road closures and it was difficult to get everything together but hopefully we will be able to come down the High Street next year.

“Hopefully it will be a stepping stone.”

Brian said he hoped local residents would come out to support the parade and support the many charities which will have stalls at the carnival.

“We are facilitating the opportunity for local charities to come along for just £10 and perhaps they will then walk away with £1,000 for their charity.”

He added: “We are hoping for a good day, for everyone to enjoy themselves, for some good weather and to support our local charities.”

The carnival will be held at The Lincolnsfield Centre, in Bushey Hall Drive, from 12noon until 4.30pm.

The parade is expected to take place at around 12noon. Entrance is free, however, there will be a charge for some activites.
