About 100 people wracked their brains on Thursday evening in the annual Three Rivers District Council charity quiz night.
A total of 13 teams gathered at Parmiters School, in Garston, to tackle questions on a host of subjects, including flags of the world, science and nature, and even the precise number of peas that can be squeezed onto the average tea spoon.
The popular annual event was hosted by council chairman Richard Laval with the more than £900 raised going his two nominated charities for the year: Water Aid and the Retired Greyhounds’ Trust.
Councillor Laval said: “It was a very good evening. We had a good turnout with a total of 13 teams, some interesting questions, and we raised just short of £1,000.”
Councillor Sara Bedford, quizmaster for the evening, informed a baffled audience that a total of 18 peas could fit onto the average teaspoon.
The team, including four Watford Observer representatives, finished in fifth place. Its score, however, was dwarfed by that of winners The Untouchables.
