A by-election for Bushey Heath is taking place later this month.

Conservative councillor Anne Swerling resigned on October 19 for “personal reasons”. The by-election for her ward is taking place on Thursday, November 26. Three candidates are standing for the position.

George Bath, Labour Party candidate, said: “Roads and pavements in Bushey Heath are a disgrace.

“This is due to councillors not insisting that they are reinstated to their original standard when they are dug up. This can easily be done by the use of tar sprays.

“If elected I would walk or drive through each road in Bushey Heath to ensure that standards were being kept, including speed limits of 20mph on all minor roads.”

Paul Morris, Conservative Party candidate, said: “I have lived in Bushey Heath for the past ten years and founded and chaired the Hartsbourne Manor Association which addresses local issues, in areas such as planning, road safety and security.

“I also chaired a regeneration board in Finsbury Park and hope to bring these skills and abilities to help fellow Bushey Heath residents on Hertsmere Borough Council.”

Anita Ownsworth, Liberal Democrat candidate, said: “In line with Radlett I'd like to see more free parking on the heath, as trade often passes by through lack of space.

"I want to keep Bushey green, to stop houses being pulled down and replaced by flats. I've lived in Bushey for 40 years, I want it to stay the same but to move on too.”

Polling stations will be open between 7am and 10pm on Thursday, November 26, and the count will take place later that evening at St Peter's Parish Hall, Bushey Heath.

To vote, you must be registered on the electoral roll. Ballot papers for postal votes need to be returned as soon as possible due to possible postal strikes.

The results of the elections will be broadcast on Hertsmere Borough Council's website as they are announced and published on Friday, November 27.
