Conservative parliamentary candidate for Watford Richard Harrington has called on the people of Watford to do all they can to help the people of Haiti – which was devastated by an earthquake this week.

Mr Harrington has encouraged people to donate to the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) set up to help the people of the island, where thousands of people have died.

He said: “The magnitude of the destruction that has hit Haiti is almost indescribable.

“Even though this disaster is over 4,000 miles away, we can still help from here in Watford.

“Therefore I urge people to donate to the Disasters Emergency Committee appeal, which will raise money for leading British NGOs to carry out their vital emergency aid work.

“The priority now is to get the essentials of clean water, medicine and shelter through to the people who need them. It is possible for us to help save many lives.”

To make a donation to the DEC appeal, people can call 0370 60 60 900, or send cheques payable to DEC HAITI EARTHQUAKE to Po Box 999, London, EC3A 3AA.
