Watford Borough Council has a new independent member after a councillor split from her party.

Councillor Georgina Tara Mann, who represents Callowland ward, has left the Watford Green Party just months before the end of her four year term on the council.

As an independent, Councillor Mann must now give up one of the two positions she holds on council committees, either on the policy development scrutiny committee or the council functions committee.

She will be allocated whichever seat is not taken up by the Liberal Democrats, who are the majority party at Watford town hall.

The council was notified that Councillor Mann has left the Green Party by party leader Councillor Steve Rackett, who also represents Callowland, in an email on January 21.

Councillor Ken Brodhurst, the third Callowland ward councillor, has now replaced Councillor Mann as the group's secretary, according to documents published ahead of Wednesday's full council meeting.

The make-up of Watford Borough Council is now 27 Liberal Democrats, four Conservatives, three Labour, two Green, and one independent.

No-one from the Watford Green Party was immediately available for comment.
