THE body found on Wanstead flats last montb has been formerly identified as David Ivor Willis who had been missing for more than 18 months.
Mr Willis, from Uxbridge, was 42 years old when he was last seen by his father in October 2002. Police believe his body may have been on Wanstead flats since that time.
A post mortem failed to pinpoint a cause of death and further tests are taking place. The death is being treated as suspicious.
DI Ian Stevenson said: "We are appealing for anyone with information about Mr Willis's disappearance from the Uxbridge area in October 2002 or about what occurred on Wanstead flats where Mr Willis's body was found on May 14, 2004."
The human remains were discovered near Capel Road by children and the area was cordoned off as forensic archaeologists helped with the search of the site.
