The “outstanding” success of a Watford primary school has been recognised at a celebration hosted by Ofsted.

The schools watchdog invited headteachers from top schools across the country who had been given top marks in 2008/09.

Among them was Meena Modi, headteacher of Chater Infant School, in Southsea Avenue, who travelled to Birmingham Botanical Gardens for the event, which was hosted by Christine Gilbert, Her Majesty’s chief inspector of education, children’s services and skills.

Mrs Modi said: “I was delighted to represent our team of committed and talented staff, governors and hard-working pupils and their parents at this celebration of outstanding work rightly recognised by Ofsted.”

The Chief Inspector praised the top schools who had earned themselves a place in the annual list of outstanding providers published by Ofsted.

Ms Gilbert said: “I wholeheartedly congratulate Chater Infant School on their success and hard work in delivering such high standards. Excellence does not happen by chance, these providers have a real drive to inspire, challenge and support children, young people and adult learners. But there is no reason why everyone can’t be outstanding; I hope they will be a source of inspiration to others.”

All those who appear on the Outstanding Providers list from 2008/09 received commemorative certificates and are authorised to use an exclusive “outstanding provider” logo.
