ONE of the teenage cousins charged with the murder of Daniel Rush, who died after being struck on the head with a hammer, has been remanded in custody by St Albans Crown Court.

Daniel Rush, 18, of The Gossamers, on the Meriden Estate, lost his fight for life on Saturday, March 1, after being hit with a hammer five days earlier.

Lee Devlin, 18, of Badgers Gate, Dunstable, handed himself in to police the next day, and was later charged with murder.

At Watford Magistrates Court on Tuesday, March 11, the allegations were officially put to him in court for the first time.

And his cousin, 18-year-old James Newton, of Palmerston Road, Kilburn, was accused of disposing of the hammer used to commit grievous bodily harm, because the victim had not died at the time he is alleged to have thrown it away.

The case was transferred to St Albans Crown Court and at that court on Tuesday, March 18, Devlin was remanded in custody and Newton released on conditional bail until a plea and directions hearing on Tuesday, May 13.
