I AM writing to appeal to any readers who are interested in helping young people of Essex.

I am looking for people who would be prepared to rent out a spare room in their home to 16 to 18-year-olds for periods of about six weeks at a time.

The young people involved will have been experiencing difficulties in their lives, and will have been in trouble with the police.

We want to provide these young people with the opportunity to live in a safe and supportive environment so that they can deal with some of their issues and avoid getting into the criminal justice system.

We desperately require this type of supportive accommodation in this area of Essex. In return we offer 24-hour support, training and a weekly payment.

This scheme works, it is often the last chance these young people have to get their lives back on course before they become adults and become part of the adult system.

Working on this scheme can be rewarding and can make a huge difference to the lives of young people.

You do not need any specific qualifications, just the willingness to be understanding and committed to young people.

So if any readers would like to find out more, please ring me on 01279 443303 for more information in how to become involved.
