HARPENDEN'S Ed Corrie came agonisingly close to causing a massive upset at the Boy's Under-15 National Championships at Bournemouth on Saturday after losing out in three sets at the semi-final stage.
Corrie, who was seeded 15 in the tournament, received a bye in the first round before edging Bobby Brooke 7-6 6-4 to book his place in the quarter-final.
There, Corrie took on second seed Andrew Milne and won in straight sets 7-5 7-5 and looked set for a place in the final after taking the opening set of the semi-final 6-2 against seventh seed Scott Dickinson.
However, here it all started to go wrong for the talented 13-year-old and he lost the next two sets 7-5 6-1 to exit the competition.
