CENTRAL defender Corey Campbell is back at Clarence Park on a two or three week trial basis.
The highly-rated central defender marked his return to St Albans City in their 3-0 victory at Aylesbury United on Tuesday, August 20, having left the club during pre-season when contract talks broke down.
Now, after an unsuccessful spell at Grays Athletic, he is optimistic of re-establishing himself as a Saint.
"There were a few open jaws, a few shocked faces when I came back, but it was good to be out there again and I hope to sign in the next couple of weeks," the defender said.
While the club would welcome Campbell back, the rigid wage structure will not, said co-manager Gary Roberts, be broken to facilitate a permanent return.
"He knows what we think of him as a player, but he's got to come into line to suit everyone else. He's here now on a trial basis, but he could be incorporated into our system and I'd like to think he'll be with us longer than two or three weeks."
