What is monstrous' about the eruv when compared to telegraph poles, street lighting and cable television boxes in the street (Monstrous eruv will only be divisive', Times Letters, August 15)?
The fact that it is archaic' does not detract from its importance.
Other archaic' laws such as those in the Ten Commandments, in the Koran, Catholic celibacy and baptism are not regarded as outdated.
Synagogues in every instance have people available to assist with the ingress of disabled persons who until now were unable to go to their house of worship on their Sabbath.
