THERE were mixed results for the leading local clubs in the latest round of matches in the Home Counties Premier Division Two East on Saturday, August 17.
At the top of the table, Hemel Hempstead Town and West Herts both tasted defeat at St Albans and Luton Town respectively, which cuts Hemel's lead at the summit to five points.
Meanwhile, at the other end of the table the enthralling relegation battle took an intriguing twist.
Chorleywood moved out of the drop zone after a stunning six-wicket win over defending champions Hertford. Stand-in captain Ned Nicol picked up six wickets as Hertford were restricted to 207-7, which Wood eclipsed thanks to a brilliant 92 from Kiwi star Luke Vivian and an unbeaten 61 from Stuart Thompson.
Langleybury slipped to second from bottom after they failed to match their batting exploits in the field at home to Welwyn Garden City.
Nigel Ilott hit a superb century and Stephen Lowe cracked a majestic 69 as Bury racked up a daunting 261-4. However, Bury lacked the fire-power to engineer a result as Welwyn ended 55 runs short for the loss of five wickets.
