TWO badgers killed over the same weekend marred the Golden Jubilee celebrations in Chipperfield.

The protected animals were found dead within 300 yards of each other on main roads in the village after hundreds of people in cars flocked to the village to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee.

The deaths have incensed resident Lord Simon North who said it could have so easily been a child that was knocked over.

The badgers were found on roads which both have 30mph speed restrictions Chapel Croft and The Street, following the Bank Holiday on Monday, June 3.

Lord North, of Chapel Croft, said the fact two badgers were found dead is more than coincidence.

He said: "Everybody comes into the village as if they are on one of those Play Station Games. At the end of the day, people need to remember what is out there.

"There were a lot of people coming in for the jubilee celebrations and it struck me there was a little bit of carelessness around.

According to Chipperfield Parish Council the proposals to calm traffic suggested by Lord North, who has lived in the village three years are not shared by residents.

In 1994, after extensive public consultation, traffic calming measures "of any significance" were rejected by residents.
