A CYCLIST was "left for dead" after flying through the air when she collided with a car early Monday morning.

The 33-year-old woman was cycling along Shepherd's Lane towards Rickmansworth when a car pulled out of Williamson Way and collided with her before driving off towards Rickmansworth.

The incident at 7.20am has left Miss Carol Fletcher, of Mead Place, Rickmansworth, with a broken right wrist and cuts and bruises to her face.

The management accountant for Staples in High Wycombe was cycling home after visiting her horse in stables in Catlips Farm, Shepherd's Lane, when the car pulled out in front of her.

Miss Fletcher said: "I just want to find this driver. They did not stop. They just left me dead in the road.

"I remember seeing this car at the junction and it just pulled out. I had no chance. I flew and landed on my head and rolled. I have chipped a bone in my wrist. I know people make mistakes, but they didn't stop. They don't know if I am alive or dead."

She has been signed off work for two weeks and is receiving physiotherapy for a stiff neck.

An employee of the William Penn Leisure centre stopped and phoned an ambulance from Mrs Fletcher's mobile phone. She was taken to Watford General and discharged at around 11am.

Miss Fletcher said: "I said at first 'Are you the one that hit me?' and he said 'no he's gone'".

"I appreciate all his help and I am very grateful. He moved his car onto my side of the road so I was shielded from any traffic."

Investigating officer PC Robert Hauxwell said the police are looking for what is thought to be a dark coloured R-reg Fiesta. Anyone with any information can telephone the area crime desk on 01442 271000.
