KNIFE-WEILDING raiders threatened staff at a Chorleywood travel agents during a robbery on Tuesday.

Two men wearing full-face balaclavas and armed with what appeared to be bread knives burst into Chorleywood Travel, Lower Road, just before 5.30pm.

Staff were threatened and bundled into a back office while the safe was raided.

A small amount of cash was taken but not satisfied with their haul the robbers also stole a purse from a member of staff.

Police searched the area, enlisting the help of the British Transport Police and alerting neighbouring forces.

Detectives are carrying out house to house enquiries and studying footage from security cameras at Chorleywood Underground Station in a bid to trace the offenders.

The raiders are described as white men, aged between 19 to 23 years old about 5ft 11ins tall.

One wore a black balaclava and his accomplice was wearing a maroon balaclava. They both wore dark coloured sweatshirts and casual trousers.

A witness came forward to tell police he saw two men fitting the description climbing into a white Ford Escort XR3 at the junction of Green Street and Station Approach near the railway bridge, shortly after the raid..
