THE frontline services provided by Bovingdon fire station have been praised by Hertfordshire County Councillor Richard Roberts who is urging villagers to fight to save it from closure.

Councillor Roberts, who is also the Dacorum Borough Councillor for Bovingdon, Chipperfield and Flaunden, visited the station recently along with south west Herts MP, David Gauke.

They met with the fire crew who face losing their jobs under a shake up of Herts fire and rescue service.

A new integrated risk management plan includes proposals to close Bovingdon and Radlett fire stations and reduce personnel and appliances at other stations across the county.

A consultation is currently underway seeking views from firefighters, local organisations and interested bodies.

Councillor Roberts is encouraging villagers to make their views known by signing petitions and writing letters to himself and David Gauke.

Meanwhile, chief fire officer Roy Wilsher has said the proposals will "ensure an enhanced level of community safety education to make the communities of Hertfordshire safer".

The closure of Bovingdon fire station, which would take place next April if proposals are agreed, would save £90,000 a year.
