SARACENS moved to secure the services of scrummaging king Cobus Visagie and Ben Broster, his protege, this week but the future of Richard Haughton remains unclear.

Haughton, 25, is out of contract in the summer and the fact that he held talks with a top six Guinness Premiership side on Wednesday and is also attracting interest from France would suggest he is seriously considering his future.

Thomas Castaignede, the France international, is also yet to sign a new contract.

The loss of Haughton, the Watford-based wing, would be a significant blow to the Men in Black who are attempting to build a side around a strong English core.

Haughton has made 89 appearances for the club since graduating through the club's vaunted youth system and is considered one of the hottest prospects in the country.

His blistering pace and penchant for long range tries have seen him emerge as a firm fans favourite. But a broken ankle injury has limited him to just nine appearances this season.

Sarries' limited game plan has seen Haughton cross the line just three times this season, including two in the same game against Newcastle Falcons, and he may feel that the team's over reliance on their forwards is stifling his progress and hindering his chances of breaking into the England set-up.
