Watford Lions have celebrated their 40th Charter Anniversary with a black tie dinner and disco.

On Saturday evening, members from St Albans, Tring, Watford, Berkhamsted, Bletchley-Milton Keynes, Harpenden, Hemel Hempstead and Boscombe, and Watford Borough Councillor Keith Crout, turned out in force to the Park Inn Watford Hotel in St Albans Road.

Attendees enjoyed a three-course dinner of mushroom soup or prawn cocktail, roast beef or salmon, spotted dick or raspberry and white chocolate bavarois, while DJ Dave played a selection of Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra songs.

Following the meal, toasts to the Queen and Lions Clubs International were proposed by Lion President David Warren and cheques were awarded to various charities including Grove House and the Fire Fighters’ Charity.

Councillor Keith Crout was on hand to conclude the evening with a speech praising the efforts of the Watford Lions.

Lion Lord Mark Franklin said: “It was a very successful evening, thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.

“Lions have worked really hard over the years to help raise money for a number of organisations.

“We hope to continue in our charitable endeavours, here is to another 40 years.”
