FINAL preparations for the Bushey Festival are underway with the fortnight-long celebration due to start on Saturday with the Bushey Carnival and parade.

The theme of the carnival, organised by Bushey and Oxhey Round Table, is "Saving The Planet". The floats will leave Bushey Heath at midday, followed by the carnival at Bushey Hall School from 1pm.

Also tomorrow, there is an art exhibition from 10am to 4pm at the Lucy Kemp-Welch Memorial Gallery and a mobile skate park will be set up in Bushey Rangers car park at the Moatfield. Tomorrow evening, the Bushey Symphony Orchestra are performing at Bushey Hall School.

Chris Kane, festival chairman, said that the week before the festival was a "bit hectic" but everything was under control. He said: "I'm now just looking forward to when the festival starts. There will be two weeks of a large variety of events. When it starts, I will be able to enjoy it."

This year's Bushey Carnival runs until Sunday, July 16 and has 36 events. For the full programme, see the festival website - www.festival.bushey.org.uk For more on the festival see our arts and leisure supplement Friday.
