Thursday, (30th June) was another exciting evening – when the Trust and some key partners travelled to Newmarket for the National Housing Federation’s “What We Are Proud of ” (WWAPO) Awards We were one of three housing finalists in the Eastern Region to be shortlisted for the category of Best Partnership Working and also made the shortlist for a category award for Contribution to Community. This was for the Partnership Protected Areas project (PPA) that has run in three Wards in the Watford – Holywell, Meriden and Central.

When I heard that we had won the Award for “Best Impact on the Community” I could hardly contain my excitement – and even though it was really late in the evening when I received the news, I was busy dancing round my living room jumping for joy. Although this was an event that I wasn’t in the spotlight myself I realised that I am really getting used to all those cameras clicking away wanting my attention. I am going to get people dropping at my feet soon asking for my autograph!!

This project was also a runner up in the East of England Region Award. A really big well done to everyone involved.

I thought I would give you a little background on this. ….. the Partnership Protected Area worked to improve community safety to residents regardless of their tenure who were offered free home security surveys, free fire safety checks, NHS schemes for a healthier lifestyle, advice on housing and places on first aid courses. GreenAiders, a scheme run by Groundwork Hertfordshire, provided residents with skills to maintain the gardens of the neighbourhoods most vulnerable residents.

The project was run by six central members including: Hertfordshire Police, Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue, Hertfordshire Police Authority, Hertfordshire County Council, West Hertfordshire NHS, Watford Borough Council and of course the “Trust”.

The project represented a sustainable effort by the Safer Watford partnership and other stakeholders to make Watford an even safer, healthier and more attractive place to live and work.
