Technical problems delayed the scheduled court appearance of three men charged in connection with June’s dramatic Watford bank siege.

The three men, all from Luton, were due to enter pleas via video link at St Albans Crown Court this morning.

Bank worker Muhammed Qasim Salam, of Blacknell Close, Imran Khalifa, of Maidenhead Road, and Faizan Rehman, of Havelock Road, have all been charged with theft, conspiracy to steal and committing a bomb hoax.

Problems with the court’s video link system, however, caused the abandonment of this morning’s hearing.

The men will now appear in court on Friday to plead either guilty or not guilty.

Dozens of police officers rushed to the Co-operative Bank, in Market Street, on the morning of Thursday, June 2 after a man walked in and threatened staff.

During the tense three-hour stand-off that followed, the area was evacuated and Army bomb disposal experts called.

It has been alleged that cash to the value of £160,000 was stolen.
