Two Watford primary schools are seeking permission to expand.

Beechfield and Cherry Tree schools, in Gammons Lane and Berry Avenue, have been asked by Hertfordshire County Council to help tackle a shortfall in school places.

Beechfield, which will take one extra form of entry from September 2012, has submitted an ambitious application to build eight new classrooms in a two storey block. Thirty new car parking spaces will also be added if its plans are approved.

Cherry Tree School has also applied to Watford Borough Council to build a new classroom block.

Neighbouring residents will now be consulted on the plans.

The Conservative-controlled county council, has approved expansions to six primary schools, despite stiff opposition from many residents living nearby.
