One-hundred Watford residents have succeeded in having a total of more than £850,000 of debt written off, the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) has said.
The debtors, who owe money on credit cards, overdrafts, loans, utility bills, council tax arrears and student loans, were granted Debt Relief Orders (DROs) – a simpler form of bankruptcy.
Keith Buxton, financial advised at Watford CAB, explained that to qualify for a DRO applicants needed a surplus income of just £50 a month after servicing their debts and assets of less than £300.
