Hertsmere MP James Clappison faced a tough round of questions yesterday morning, as part of a special assembly held at Highwood Primary School.
The Conservative representative visited the school in Mead Way to discuss his role in government and seemed impressed that students knew where Big Ben was located, as well as The Houses of Parliament.
Following a short speech, pupils from Year 6 questioned Mr Clappison, asking him whether he had met the queen, how he became MP, and what his biggest challenge to date had been in his role as an elected representative.
Mr Clappison said: “When I was elected it was like going to a new school for the first time.
“You hardly know no-one anyone or have any friends.
“It’s a hard role, but it’s great to go out and meet people.
“I was initially a lawyer and politics was a hobby. But I really liked speaking to members of the public and public speaking, so entering politics seemed a logical step.
“If you have a hobby that can translate into a job I’d say go for it, it’s a lucky position to be in.”
