Striker Javier Acuna is to join Watford on loan after he was signed by Udinese, the Italian club has revealed.

The Hornets’ fellow Pozzo-owned side have confirmed the capture of the 25-year-old Paraguay striker on their official website and also announced he will initially be moving to Vicarage Road.

The forward, whose full name is Carlos Javier Acuna Caballero, was on the books of Real Madrid, who he joined in 2008 from Cadiz, but has spent the last two seasons on loan at Girona, scoring 21 goals in 56 appearances.

The 5ft 9in striker, who has been linked with moves to Crystal Palace, Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest, impressed in the Spanish second tier last season, netting 16 times to help Girona to the play-offs where they missed out on promotion to La Liga at the hands of Almeria.
