Cricket fans in the Watford area will have the opportunity to watch potentially five days of first class action next season after Middlesex announced they are to play two games at Merchant Taylors’ School.

The fixtures for the 2014 season were revealed this morning and the county, who have Watford-born England bowler Steve Finn in their ranks, will be playing their LV= County Championship fixture against Sussex at the Northwood school, starting on May 26.

The day before, fans of the shortest format of the game will have the chance to watch Middlesex in a Twenty20 match in the rebranded Natwest t20 Blast competition.

Middlesex chief executive Vinny Codrington said: “A continued desire to embrace the popularity of outground cricket around the county sees us also playing out first ever Championship match at Merchant Taylors’ School next year, after the success of our MCC University match held there in 2012. Sussex will be our opponents for this four day game in late May.”

On the t20 Blast match, Codrington added: “Two of our other Natwest t20 Blast home encounters will be at outgrounds, with Richmond again featuring, and Merchant Taylors’ School also being utilised next year as a twenty20 venue as part of the festival week.”
