Valon Behrami is set to join the Hornets from Hamburg whilst the Golden Boys have had a bid for Tottenham Hotspur’s Benjamin Stambouli accepted, the Watford Observer understands.

Behrami, 30, will become the Golden Boys’ sixth addition of the summer should he complete a switch from the Bundesliga side.

Meanwhile, French midfielder Stambouli could follow in the footsteps of former Spurs teammate Etienne Capoue after Watford had a bid for the 24-year-old accepted.

The former Montpellier enforcer only moved to White Hart Lane last summer but endured a frustrating first season in England, making just four Premier League starts.

Speaking after Wednesday’s win at St Albans City, head coach Quique Sanchez Flores confirmed there would be further arrivals at Vicarage Road.

“It is possible,” he said when asked is any signings would be complete in the coming days. “The club are working hard to bring in new players. I expect more soon.

“We are looking at players in different positions but we have four weeks until the start of the season, so I think we are on track. I am happy.”

Former West Ham United midfielder Behrami only joined Hamburg from Napoli in a £3.2 million switch last summer and made 22 appearances for the German side.

However, the former Fiorentina and Lazio man – who has won 53 caps for Switzerland – has been given permission to discuss personal terms with Watford.
