Watford’s deal to sign Benjamin Stambouli from Tottenham Hotspur has almost been completed, the Watford Observer understands.

As we reported this week, a bid for the midfielder has been accepted by Spurs and we have been told the deal is now almost over the finish line.

Stambouli is set to follow in the footsteps of fellow Frenchman Etienne Capoue and make the short trip from White Hart Lane to Vicarage Road as the Hornets continue to build a squad strong enough to handle the challenge of the Premier League.

The former Montpellier enforcer only moved to White Hart Lane last summer but endured a frustrating first season in England, making just four Premier League starts.

Subject to the deal being completed, Stambouli will join Sebastian Prodl, Giedrius Arlauskis, Matej Vydra, Jose Holebas, Capoue and, although the move has still to be officially confirmed, Valon Behrami in joining the club this summer.
