Leicester City's Islam Slimani is subject of a loan bid from Watford, according to Algerian media sources.

The Hornets are said to have targeted the striker again after casting an eye over him in the summer, when head coach Marco Silva said he would "definitely" improve the Vicarage Road squad.

Silva and Slimani worked together for a season at Sporting in the Portuguese top flight earlier in their careers, and are both evidently keen on a reunion.

The Algerian forward has scored only seven times in 30 Premier League games following a £28 million move from Sporting last season, and his career with the Foxes is said to be hanging by a thread after Claude Puel left him out of his squad for the Carabao Cup defeat to Manchester City on Tuesday night.

Now Algerian news outlet Compétition says Watford have made an official approach for a loan deal, with Newcastle said to be hot on their tails.

The 29-year-old has undoubted quality, and netted 27 times in 33 starts for Sporting during his final season with the club.

His style is fitting for English football, with his physicality his main strength - but not speed, which Leicester have used to good effect in attacking positions over recent years.

He would present more of an alternative to Troy Deeney and Stefano Okaka than Andre Gray, with the Hornets unable to mount a serious Plan B if their counter-attacking style falls flat, as it has done on a number of occasions.
