Marco Silva wants Andre Gray to use his expected run in the side to good effect and show what he is made of with Troy Deeney out suspended.

Gray has a good chance to start displaying the sort of form which convinced Watford to pay £18.5 million for him earlier this year, with Deeney missing for the next four games and Stefano Okaka out of favour and likely to leave in January.

Whatever the reason behind Gray’s indifferent form so far, Silva thinks confidence is not an issue for the 26-year-old.

He said: “With Andre and Troy in this situation, I cannot look at one as a starter and the other as a back-up. Andre has started plenty of games.

“I don't see Andre with a lack of confidence. There is no big difference between when he came here in August and now.

“For my job I want to see him do more some times. In some moments he starts to look like now is the moment to go, but then he misses an easy goal and he has doubts in his mind.

“We are here to help him play at a good level and help the team. He knows how we work with him and what we need.

“Always when a player plays it's important for him to achieve things for him and the team.”
