Matt Wallace has moved up to 55th in the early season Race to Dubai standings after finishing in a tie for 32nd at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
The Moor Park professional shot a two-under-par final round of 70 to finish the tournament on seven-under, 15 shots adrift of champion Tommy Fleetwood, who successfully defended the title he won 12 months ago en route to winning the Race to Dubai crown.
Following a frustrating third round in which the 27-year-old had fired a level-par 72 to add to his previous rounds of 71 and 68, Wallace made a blistering start to his final 18 holes, making three consecutive birdies on the par five second, par four third and par three fourth.
But that was where any hopes of a late charge up the leaderboard were to end because the Pinner-based player bogeyed the par fours at five and 11, before retrieving one of those dropped shots with a three at 14.
Wallace now moves on to this week’s Dubai Desert Classic where club-mate Callum Shinkwin, who missed the cut in Abdu Dhabi, is also set to compete.
