Watford Grammar School for Boys’ Under-15 rugby team fought back to progress to the quarter-finals of the National Schools Plate competition.

The side came from behind to defeat Surrey-based Hinchley Wood School 26-19 in round four of the competition.

Watford Grammar were 7-0 down at half-time which left them with work to do.

Second-half tries from captain James Foley, scrum-half Joe Sewell and winger Tom Kennard set up a tight finish which ended with Nathan Bloomfield crossing the line in the corner in the last minute to win the game following some quick thinking from Tobias Elliott.

Fly-half Shay Rafter kept his team in the game against Hinchley Wood with some excellent kicking from the tee and he slotted the conversion to clinch a hard-fought victory for the team.

The win sets Watford Grammar up with a home quarter-final tie against Brighton College which will take place on Tuesday.
