Watford have re-entered discussion with Sunderland over a loan deal for Didier Ndong, the Watford Observer understands.

The Hornets are desperate to add a holding midfielder to their ranks by the end of the transfer window, and have Ndong identified as one of three possible recruits alongside Leander Dendoncker and Zambo Anguissa.

Black Cats boss Chris Coleman said last week there had been no approach for the Gabon international since early in the window, but Watford have since been in touch with chief executive Martin Bain, and the player is understood to have his heart set on a loan.

Ndong has been outcast from the Sunderland squad in recent months, and aside from starting - and then getting sent off - during a 4-0 defeat to Cardiff earlier this month, has featured for only 39 minutes since the start of November.
