Abdoulaye Doucoure has described Troy Deeney as one of Watford’s best attacking players, as the striker faces potential retrospective action for his offensive celebration against Chelsea.
The Watford skipper raised his middle fingers in the direction of both home and away supporters after netting from the spot in last night’s memorable 4-1 win.
Doucoure refused to comment on whether Deeney would face action, but accepted the important role he plays for the Hornets.
He said: “I don’t know [about a ban]. Of course, Troy is one of the best players in the team and the attack and we have to keep him in the team to score goals, so we will see what happens.”
Watford were on fine form under the Vicarage Road lights as late goals from Daryl Janmaat, Gerard Deulofeu and Roberto Pereyra gave them victory after Eden Hazard cancelled out Deeney’s effort.
While Deeney’s actions won’t take the shine off the win, it could leave Watford with a lack of attacking options going forward.
His celebration may have suggested otherwise, but Doucoure says Deeney’s overriding emotion at finding the net was one of joy.
