Adrian Mariappa believes West Bromwich Albion will provide a stern test to Watford today, despite the Baggies being marooned at the foot of the Premier League table.

Alan Pardew’s men are seven points from safety and look destined for the drop heading into the clash at Vicarage Road.

Watford meanwhile climbed six points away from the bottom three with a win over Everton last time out, but Mariappa is taking nothing for granted ahead of the game.

“Games against sides struggling are always the toughest games in my opinion so we have to be really focused coming into the game,” Mariappa said.

“We have to approach it with the right mentality and attitude because every game from here until the end of the season is massive.

“Our next game is always our biggest game and that is the way we have to look at it until the end of the season.

“This is the only game we are focused on and we are not looking ahead the games after it. We know it will be tough and we have to be ready.”

Watford’s mood was lifted considerably by their defeat of Everton on Saturday and they will be hopeful of picking up a third straight home win under Javi Gracia.

Mariappa was delighted to have taken three points from the clash with the Toffees but says Watford must not rest on their laurels.

He said: “It was a massive result at the weekend and the lads are in good spirits, so we have trained really well the last few days.

“It was a massive win and we knew it was a really big game going into it. Getting the three points lifted us a bit higher in the table and we every point is vital.”
