Eric Hand Challenge Cup

Reed Rangers have made it through to the final of the Challenge Cup for the first time following a hard-fought 2-0 win over Third Division leaders The Tree.

The first half saw Reed have lots of procession but unable to break down a well-organised Tree side until two minutes before the interval when the deadlock was broken by a piece of individual skill from Karl Penny as he took on two players before tucking home a shot into the bottom left-hand corner.

Reed started the second half strongly but they could not find the final ball to put the game out of reach.

The Tree had a sustained period of pressure following several set pieces in the closing stages, but a swift counter-attack proved too much for them as Penny slotted his second goal of the tie to seal the win.

In the delayed quarter-final, Oakview beat fellow Premier Division side Rifle Volunteer 3-0 and will now face Second Division leaders Tudor Athletic for the right to face Reed in the Final on May 6.

Craig Gorrie scored both of his two goals heading in at the far post, with the third coming from another header, this time from Alfie Barrett following a free-kick from Lewis Putman.

The all-Division Three affair between Sun Regent Sport and Bushey Rangers saw the latter win 5-2 thanks to a brace from Dan Whitman and one each for George Davies, Taylor Cobb and Dan Gillespie. Dave Flannery and Lewis Goodyear netted for Sun.
