Reports from Germany claim Watford will go head-to-head with Leicester City in an attempt to sign Hannover 96 striker Niclas Fullkrug this summer.
Fullkrug has enjoyed a productive campaign for Hannover, scoring 15 goals in 35 appearances and could provide the solution to Watford’s goalscoring concerns.
Troy Deeney, Andre Gray and Stefano Okaka – the club’s three recognised out and out forwards – have managed just 11 goals between them this term.
Of that trio, Deeney leads the goalscoring charts with six strikes but three of those have come from the penalty spot.
Gray, meanwhile, has struggled for form in his first season at the Vic and scored five goals, while Okaka’s solitary strike came on the opening day of the season.
Fullkrug’s form has been in stark contrast to that of the Watford strike force and 13 of his goals this season have come in the Budesliga.
That return makes the 25-year-old the joint-fourth most prolific player in the German top flight and he has found the net on average once every two games.
It is believed a bid of £8 million would be enough to secure the striker’s services but interest from Leicester could well see that relatively meagre sum rise considerably.
