Heurelho Gomes has revealed he expects to leave Watford this summer while speaking with media in his native Brazil.

The keeper is in the final year of his contract at Vicarage Road and at 37 reaching the tail end of his career.

With Watford expected to bring in a new number one this summer - Ben Foster is the latest name to emerge as a target - chances are likely to be at a premium for Gomes next term.

It is little surprise, therefore, that Gomes, who has become a key member of the Watford dressing room since joining the club in 2014, is considering his options.

“I have got to solve my life there. Let’s see what happens, but probably I will not stay at Watford because the manager does not count on me for next season, so I have got to sort out my future,” he told ESPN Brazil.

“I have many possibilities, one of them is to come back to Brazil, but the future belongs to God.”

Gomes has previously discussed a desire to play in his homeland again before his career comes to a close and now could be an opportune time to depart Watford.

While the former Tottenham Hotspur man refused to rule out a return to Brazil, he insists he will need to find a club which matches his ambition to do so.

He said: “I don't know it depends on the project. I like to take projects and it has to be a great project, you know? I don’t want to come back just to play.”
