Reported Watford target Sergio Rico is likely to leave Sevilla this summer, the Watford Observer understands.

The Hornets have been linked with a move for the highly-rated goalkeeper for most of the summer, with one report in the Spanish publication Marca claiming that Rico has turned down a loan move to Vicarage Road in recent days after his wage demands were not met.

Rico has also been linked with moves to Arsenal and Liverpool as well as Watford during the last few months and the Watford Observer has been told it is a real possibility that the 24-year-old will leave the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium this summer.

Despite the signing of Ben Foster from West Bromwich Albion two weeks ago, the Hornets could be in the market for another goalkeeper, with Heurelho Gomes telling ESPN Brazil last month that he is likely to leave Vicarage Road.

With Gomes’ departure looking increasingly likely and young shot stopper Pontus Dahlberg’s near term future currently uncertain, the Golden Boys could well look to bring in another goalkeeper to compete with Foster for the number one jersey.

Rico has spent his entire career in his native Spain with Sevilla, helping the La Liga outfit claim back-to-back Europa League titles in 2014 and 2015.

The Spanish international made his debut for the club in 2014 and quickly established himself as their number one, making over 160 appearances in all competitions since then.

He was once again a regular for Sevilla last season, featuring 38 times as the club secured a seventh place finish in La Liga and was a part of the team which dumped Manchester United out of the Champions League at Old Trafford in March.

But Rico’s form in Spain during the last couple of seasons has seen him establish himself as one of the brightest young goalkeepers in La Liga and Sevilla now seem resigned to losing the 24-year-old this summer.
