Matt Wallace said it would mean “everything” to be selected for the Ryder Cup after his incredible triumph at Made in Denmark.

The Moor Park professional produced a remarkable finish to birdie five of the last six holes to get into a four-way play-off on 19-under-par, and then made a further two birdies to claim his third European Tour title of the year in front of Thomas Bjorn.

The European Ryder Cup captain will announce his four selections on Wednesday and Wallace told the European Tour website: “I’ve stepped up to the mark and I’ve shown him exactly what I’m about.

“If he doesn’t pick me then that’s absolutely fine but if he does, he knows he’s going to exactly that in his team.

“I set myself positions where I have to do things and, more often than not, I get it done. I’m very fortunate to have done it when I needed to in a few tournaments now.

“When my back’s against the wall, I don’t shy away from pushing myself off there and trying to get the job done and I kept saying to myself at the end there, ‘you can make this, you have done everything to be able to make to this putt’, and I did it. Super happy.”

Thorbjorn Olesen sealed his place in the team yesterday and he will line up alongside fellow qualifiers Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrell Hatton, Rory McIlroy, Francesco Molinari, Alex Noren, Jon Rahm and Justin Rose in Paris at the end of this month.

Wallace’s Moor Park club-mate Callum Shinkwin had also been in contention heading into the final round in Aarhus, but he had to settle for as tie for 20th after a one-over-par 73 had seen him finish on 11-under.
