Miles Shinkwin says he is “gutted” after a hand injury saw his English Light Heavyweight title bout with Joel McIntyre postponed.

An sparring injury, which has left Shinkwin with a potential fracture on his right hand, means the fight which was scheduled for Saturday, September 15 will now have to be rearranged.

While the decision was one Shinkwin had no choice but to make, the Bushey boxer is unsurprisingly frustrated after what has been a productive training camp.

"I was looking forward to this fight more than any I have ever had and I think everyone around me could see how happy I was," Shinkwin said.

"Everything was on track, my weight was great and I was honestly flying in the gym. I'd beaten my hill sprint record by a minute and a half and that shows what shape I am in."

Shinkwin still needs a further scan to assess the magnitude of the injury, but is hopeful it will not keep him out of the ring for too long.

It is the first time in a professional and amateur career spanning the best part of 100 fights that Shinkwin, 30, has had to postpone a bout and his frustration is clear.

"Maybe it is my turn to get injured but it is still hard to deal with after the way I have trained and dieted to get to the fight," he said.

"I spent six weeks dying in training, not really living any kind of life and for the fight not to happen, I am gutted."

Shinkwin will still get his title shot and is awaiting word on when the fight with McIntyre will be rescheduled for.

It is a meeting both are eager to take place, and Shinkwin is remaining positive.

He said: "My next fight will be against McIntyre and I will get my title shot. it is a fight we both want and fans want.

"All it means is I have more time to prepare because I am still working hard in the gym."
