Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has been ruled out of Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Watford at Vicarage Road.
The 23-year-old, who has been among United’s top performers this season, suffered a concussion after a clash with Spain’s Dani Carvajal while on international duty with England on Saturday.
Shaw will therefore have to serve a mandatory seven-day spell on the side lines as he recovers from the concussion.
The accidental coming together between Shaw and Carvajal saw the former Southampton man knocked unconscious before his head collided with the Wembley turf.
He was treated on the pitch and given oxygen before being stretchered off, but was said to have regained consciousness quickly.
Shaw’s absence could well see ex-Watford man Ashley Young recalled to the United starting XI on Saturday.
The Hornets will hope Young has less of an impact than he did in the corresponding fixture last season – a 4-2 defeat which saw the 33-year-old score twice.
