Sebastian Prodl was powerless to prevent Austria going down to a 1-0 UEFA Nations League defeat against Bosnia & Herzegovina on Tuesday night.

Former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko, who became his country’s record appearance maker by winning his 95th cap, marked the occasion with the game’s only goal 12 minutes from time.

The defeat came on the back of Austria’s 2-0 win over Ken Sema’s Sweden on Friday night.

It was a more productive evening for Prodl’s Watford team-mate Craig Cathcart as he represented Northern Ireland in a 3-0 home defeat of Israel.

Cathcart, who has been excellent at the heart of Watford’s defence this season, played the entire match as goals from Steven Davis, Stuart Dallas and Gavin Whyte gave Northern Ireland a comfortable win.

Northern Ireland have also been on the receiving end of a loss against Bosnia after losing 2-1 in the game prior to their friendly success against Israel.

Cathcart and Prodl will return to action with their national sides next month when the pair face off in a Nations League clash at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion.

Pontus Dahlberg was in action for Sweden’s Under-21 side as they went down to a 1-0 loss at the hands of Turkey in their UEFA Under-21 Championship match.

Talented 18-year-old Domingos Quina came from the bench as Portugal’s Under-20 side played out a six-goal thriller to beat Czech Republic 4-2.

Dodi Lukebakio completed the Watford contingent in international action as he featured for Belgium’s Under-21s.

The midfielder who is on loan at Fortuna Dusseldorf played all but seven minutes of the 3-0 UEFA Under-21 Championship victory over Hungary.

The result means Belgium have now gone nine games without losing at Under-21 level.
