Watford were held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham as Andre Gray’s early opener was cancelled out by Aleksandar Mitrovic at Craven Cottage.

The Hornets were ahead after two minutes when Gray converted after being played through by Will Hughes.

However, Fulham came on strong in the second half and were rewarded when Mitrovic turned in from close range.

The Hornets could well have been left empty handed but for the intervention of Ben Foster late on as the Watford keeper made two big saves at the death.

Here’s how we rated the Watford players in the Premier League clash.

Ben Foster – 7.5

Watford Observer:

Made two stops with moments to spare which ensured Watford left London with a point, the second of which a fingertip effort to tip Mitrovic’s header onto the bar.

Also did well in the first half to save from Luciano Vietto when the wide man broke away from Janmaat.

Daryl Janmaat – 6.5

An attacking threat in the first half, the Dutchman got forward well but was found wanting with his delivery on occasion.

Much of Fulham’s better moments came down his flank and Janmaat had to be alert to deal with Ryan Sessegnon and Vietto – a task he didn’t always rise to.

Craig Cathcart – 6.5

Solid at the heart of Watford’s defence and helped contain Mitrovic for much of the afternoon. Struggled as the game went on and Fulham began to look for Mitrovic with a number of crosses.

Christian Kabasele – 7

Given a firm examination by the bullish Mitrovic and, despite losing out in the air on occasion, coped admirably. The centre-back’s pace allowed him to get out of a number of difficult situations.

Jose Holebas – 6

Delivery from set-pieces was severely lacking and either failed to beat the first man or picked out the Fulham goalkeeper regularly.

Booked for a sliding challenge and is now just one yellow card away from a suspension.

Will Hughes – 7.5

Watford Observer:

Set the tempo with his high-pressing early on as he won the ball on the edge of the box and fed Gray for the Watford opener.

Looked to fatigue as the game wore on, but was still an energetic presence for the 70 odd minutes he played.

Abdoulaye Doucoure – 7

As dominant as ever in the heart of Watford’s midfield as the physicality of the Frenchman allowed him to get the better of his opposite number.

Doucoure’s use of the ball was excellent and his range of passing allowed Watford to launch a number of attacks, particularly in the first half.

Etienne Capoue – 6.5

Played deeper than Doucoure and put himself about to break up play well and kick-start a number of the visiting side’s attacks.

Roberto Pereyra – 6

Not the wide man’s most productive day as the game passed him by on occasion, despite going close with a curling strike in the first period.

Andre Gray – 7.5

Another excellent performance at the point of Watford’s attack as Gray took his tally of goals for the season to three with his early effort.

Could have had another goal when being denied by a strong save from Marcus Bettinelli in the first period.

Troy Deeney – 7

Watford Observer:

The striker believes he should be considered for an England call-up and carried his early season form on at Craven Cottage.

Hold up play was once again exemplary as Deeney linked up with Gray to provide the outlet for many of Watford’s attacks.

SUBS

Kiko Femenia – 6

Introduced for the flagging Hughes to add energy but got precious few chances to get forward as the home side finished the stronger.

Defended resolutely late in the game.

Isaac Success – 6.5

Could have had a tap in had Deeney been able to thread a pass into his path and put himself about.

Drew one good save with a near post effort as Watford looked for a late winner.

Ken Sema – N/A

Not given long enough to make an impact.
