Oxhey Jets were unable to build on Saturday’s morale-boosting win over Potton United in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division, as they slipped to a 3-1 defeat away to North Greenford United.

Ben Long opened the scoring for the home side on Tuesday but Oxhey’s Scott Bonner cancelled out that early strike shortly after the restart.

But Oxhey couldn’t build on that equaliser and they fell behind for a second time thanks to Tyler Christian-Law’s effort with 25 minutes to go.

Greenford would wrap up the three points with five minutes remaining to make it two defeats in three games for Tim O’Sullivan’s men.

But Jets enjoyed better fortunes away to Potton at the weekend, as they fought back from 2-1 down to claim a 3-2 win.

Fresh from their FA Vase exit against Harefield United the previous week, O’Sullivan made five changes which included a debut for 17-year-old Ollie Lawford.

O’Sullivan’s decision to play Lawford was vindicated within minutes as the teenager played an influential role in Oxhey’s first goal, racing to the by-line before cutting the ball back to Nick Kerley who turned home from close range.

But Potton wouldn’t lie down and they turned the game on its head by netting two quick-fire goals to hand them the lead at the break.

Jets had goalkeeper Matt Evans to thank when he pulled off a great save to prevent Potton from increasing their advantage before half-time and that intervention proved crucial as Kerley dragged the South Oxhey side back on level terms shortly after the restart.

Having got back on level terms, the pendulum would then swing back in Jets’ favour as they took the lead for a second time thanks to Luke Jones’ excellent strike, which ultimately proved to be the winner, to hand O’Sullivan’s men a vital three points in the top flight.

Tring Athletic remain near the top of the table after securing their fifth victory on the bounce against Hadley.

They had to do it the hard way though, as they fell behind in the first 10 minutes thanks to a penalty.

Hadley thought they had doubled their advantage a minute later when David Laird found the back of the net, but the referee had already blown his whistle for a foul.

Following that early scare, Tring would equalise through Ashton Campbell, who scored his ninth goal in 10 games when he tucked home from close range.

Campbell would play an influential role in Tring’s second following the restart, as he attempted to get a touch on Luke Dunstan’s cross which deceived the goalkeeper, meaning the young midfielder’s attempt flew into the back of the net to hand the visitors the lead for the first time in the contest.

Ian Richardson’s side went from strength to strength following that effort and they capitalised on Shaz Anwar’s dismissal for Hadley by sealing the victory with three minutes remaining through Jack Read, who headed home from Campbell’s fine cross to secure a 3-1 win.

Leverstock Green are out of the FA Cup, as they were beaten 4-2 by Dorking Wanderers despite a valiant display in Saturday’s Second Qualifying Round tie.

Jason Prior’s early penalty for Dorking was cancelled out by Chris Blunden and Leverstock thought they were about to take a half-time lead when Jonathan Lacey put them in front deep into stoppage time at the end of the opening period.

But Dorking would equalise almost instantly through Niall McManus and they took that momentum into the second half, with Tom Tolfrey putting them in front for a second time with 25 minutes remaining.

Despite Leverstock’s best efforts, their fate was sealed when Kieran Lavery added a fourth with five minutes remaining, meaning their FA Cup hopes are over for another season after the 4-2 defeat.
