Northwood endured a rather bizarre few days in the Bostik South Central League, as having stuck six past Molesey on Saturday, Dean Barker’s men were on the end of a six-goal thrashing by Hayes and Yeading in mid-week.

James Ewington was key for the Wood on Saturday, as the striker bagged his second hat-trick of the season to help them beat Molesey 6-1.

After an early scare, Barker’s side took the lead thanks to Matt Cooper’s free-kick and Ewington would double their advantage just before the 20-minute mark.

Ewington made it three soon after by calmly slotting past Sam Johnson-Freeman and the Northwood striker capped off a fine first half by sealing his hat-trick five minutes before the break with another clinical finish.

Molesey’s afternoon went from bad to worse when striker Emmanuel Quarshie was dismissed for a second bookable offence following the restart and Wood made full use of their numerical advantage through Jorome Slew, who found the far corner in the 56th minute.

The visitors pulled one back through Tayo Oyebola but that strike proved to be just a temporary reprieve, as Wood made it six on the stroke of full-time when Carl Pearce headed home from Cooper’s cross.

But Barker’s men were on the end of a six-goal thrashing just days later away to Hayes and Yeading, who ran out 6-0 winners when the sides met in mid-week.

An own goal from Pearce handed Hayes a half-time lead and Northwood’s hopes of claiming a result were dealt a further blow when Sam Tring was dismissed following the restart.

Hayes and Yeading would ultimately make their numerical advantage count, as a brace from Duncan Culley was backed up by further strikes from Hassan Jalloh and Josh Chamberlain to condemn Northwood to their first defeat in three games.
