Watford’s Roberto Pereyra has been rewarded for his fine start to the season with his first call up for Argentina in almost three years.

The 27-year-old has been named in the squad, alongside the likes of Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Juventus’ Pablo Dybala, for Argentina’s friendlies against Iraq and Brazil in Saudi Arabia during the international break.

Pereyra will now have the chance to add to the 10 caps he has for his country, the last of which coming in a friendly against Mexico in September 2015.

The versatile midfielder joined Watford in August 2016 from Serie A giants Juventus, but his first campaign at Vicarage Road was marred by a serious knee injury sustained against Manchester City in December 2016, ruling him out for the rest of the campaign.

But Pereyra has been revitalised under head coach Javi Gracia, who moved the Argentine out to the left hand side shortly after his appointment, with the former Udinese man scoring three goals during the last few months of last season.

The midfielder has taken that form into this campaign, scoring three goals in August, which included a stunning strike against Brighton on the opening day.

Pereyra will link up with Argentina’s squad following Watford’s game against Bournemouth next Saturday.
