Watford head coach Javi Gracia feels Kiko Femenia can play either at right-back or in a role further forward with the Spaniard favourite to replace Daryl Janmaat against Arsenal.

Gracia has named the same starting line-up in each of Watford’s six Premier League games so far, but he will be forced to make one change against the Gunners with Janmaat set for an extended period on the side lines after picking up a knee injury.

That means one of Femenia or Marc Narvarro will replace the Dutch international at the Emirates Stadium.

Femenia is yet to start for the Golden Boys in the Premier League this season, but has featured in a more advanced role during the Hornets’ Carabao Cup games against both Reading and Tottenham Hotspur.

But Gracia also feels the 27-year-old, who moved to Vicarage Road from Alaves in July 2017, is capable of playing at right-back as well following his cameo against Manchester United earlier this month.

When asked about Femenia, the Watford head coach said: “I see him as a very good player. He can see different positions. He has played this season as a winger and in the last home game against United he played some minutes as a right-back. He can play in both positions for me.”

It remains to be seen whether Gracia will opt to make further changes to his starting line-up after some impressive performances from some of Watford’s fringe players in the mid-week Carabao Cup defeat to Tottenham.

Nathaniel Chalobah got more minutes under his belt in mid-week, while the likes of Isaac Success and Ben Wilmot also impressed in their second starts of the campaign.

Gracia has previously said that he would change formation depending on Watford’s opponents this season if it would improve their chances of getting a result.

But the Spaniard was keeping his cards close to his chest when asked whether he would potentially look to bring in another midfielder in the shape of Chalobah for this afternoon’s clash at the Emirates Stadium.

Gracia said: “For me, he (Chalobah) is an option. I know he is ready. Now, he is one player I have to choose like others and to choose the moment when Chalobah plays. He’s fit and maybe like the rest of the players, they feel comfortable when they play more times in a row. I think he’s available and he’s fit.

“In this moment, I have to change one player. The next hours we will see and I will decide if I change more. But I always try to choose the best players and the best shape as well.

“We have played with the same shape in other games but sometimes, depending on the characteristics of some players or playing against other teams, we can change and adjust something. But many times you don’t need to change your shape or your players to change something.

“We need to adjust in all of the games but we don’t need to change players or shape to make different adjustments in different games.”
