A strong Watford performance went unrewarded as they paid the price for not taking at least one of the opportunities they created after a late quick-fire double gave Arsenal a 2-0 victory.

Although Alexandre Lacazette should have given the Gunners a first-half lead, Unai Emery's side found it tough going to create many other chances of note against the hard-working and organised Hornets, and the home side had a fine Bernd Leno save to thank for stopping Troy Deeney from putting the visitors in front after the break.

Isaac Success also put a good opportunity narrowly wide as Watford, sensing their opportunity to add three more points to their tally, upped the attacking ante after 70 minutes.

But at a time when they Arsenal were on the back foot, a lapse at the back allowed Alex Iwobi to get free on the right and his low cross was turned into his own net by the unfortunate Craig Cathcart, with Alexandre Lacazette ready to pounce.

The Hornets had no time to recover as within two minutes they had conceded again as Mesut Ozil finished off a slick passing move to secure the points for the home side, leaving their opponents to wonder what might have been.
